Book Review: UNRAVEL ME by Tahereh Mafi

Here it is! Week #2 of my month long review of Tahereh Mafi’s “Shatter Me” series! This week I review Book 2 in the series–“Unravel Me.” Read on to find out what happens next for Juliette, Adam and Warner!

screen-shot-2016-10-10-at-4-13-16-pm

Synopsis:

tick tick tick tick tick it’s almost time for war.

Juliette has escaped to Omega Point. It is a place for people like her—people with gifts—and it is also the headquarters of the rebel resistance.

She’s finally free from The Reestablishment, free from their plan to use her as a weapon, and free to love Adam. But Juliette will never be free from her lethal touch.

Or from Warner, who wants Juliette more than she ever thought possible.

In this exhilarating sequel to Shatter Me, Juliette has to make life-changing decisions between what she wants and what she thinks is right. Decisions that might involve choosing between her heart—and Adam’s life.

The Review: 5 stars out of 5

Once again, Tahereh Mafi has delivered an amazingly delicious book I wasn’t able to put down! As I said in my last review, her writing style is unique and addictive–an almost deadly combo if you have anything to do other than read! But even if you do have a job or a family, I would still recommend you read this series!

Okay, when Book 1 ended, she had escaped to the protection of Omega Point, an underground group of people with powers, just like her. I’ll admit, I kept envisioning X-Men the entire time I read this, but honestly, I don’t think that’s a bad thing! We get to know the residents of OP and learn the inner workings of this rival of the Reestablishment. Yes, they are preparing for war. Yes, there is a reappearance of Warner. And yes, things aren’t all roses when it comes to her relationship with Adam. What did you expect? This middle book of the series was just as solid as Book 1.

Juliette: This girl has problems. We knew it in Book 1, and it’s just as apparent in Book 2. There are still moments when you think she’s about to crack, only to recover and find a strength you had no idea she even possessed. I love this chick because every time I thought she was about to do something stupid–emotional–just like every other female character in a YA novel, she’d do the exact opposite and would gain new respect from me. Go Juliette!

Adam: This book was harder for me because we don’t get to see as much of Adam as we did in Book 1. I was a huge Adam fan, but this book focused more on Juliette’s relationship with Warner and the ways they might be alike. Juliette and Adam have their fair share of fights and disagreements in this installment, but I still felt like my heart was missing something, since he was just so absent. This alone makes me want to run to the store to buy Book 3 so I can get me some more Adam!!

Warner: So, I’m about to say something you might not like. I really like Warner. Yes, the murderer, torturer, heartless, evil son of the head of the Reestablishment. That guy. I totally like him. A lot. And I don’t think this is a mistake. Mafi wrote this book specifically for the readers to get to know Warner on a deeper level, to find out what makes him tick and to see just how human–and like ourselves–he really is. I found my heart in a battle each time I thought of Adam and Warner. I honestly can’t say which guy I’d rather her end up with. If you’ve only read Book 1, you’ll think I’m crazy, but believe me–read Book 2 and you’ll see what I mean. I like this guy. And I can’t wait to find out what happens in Book 3!

There’s not much more I can say that won’t give away major spoilers, so I’ll shut up now. But seriously, if you haven’t given this series a chance, please do yourself a favor and read them! Come back next week for review #3 in this series.

Happy reading, friends!
