Book Review – Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children

Ok, ok, the long overdue book review is finally here! (Would you believe I started writing this yesterday, but didn’t finish until just now?) Yes, I admit, I neglected it to do things like: go for a girls’ night out dinner with friends; sit through (yet another) performance of Les Miz; sit on a sandy beach watching my children play; and finally, to go see ‘The Fault in our Stars‘ movie (amazing, BTW!) Sorry, sorry – summer is here and all that, right?

So, this past week I spent every free moment I had reading a novel I had been meaning to read for quite awhile, yet had been avoiding all the same – ‘Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children’. I do love my fantasy/sci-fi lit, but looking at the cover, I wasn’t sure if it was more scary than anything else. However, noticing that the sequel to this novel had been pubbed, I figured I’d better bite the bullet and read it!

Aaaand…. it was excellent! By far one of my favorite reads in a while! The author is a superb writer – I really enjoy reading something that someone of high intelligence has written – it just shines through! And the story was way different than I thought it would be – hooked me from the first sentence and I fought to put it down the entire week. (Yes, it is unusual for me to even take a week to read something!)

The author chose to use old photographs as a back drop for the storyline. From this, he wove a tale about Jacob – a boy who never felt that he completely fit in with this world – and his journey to track down the mystery of his late grandfather’s past. In doing so, he was introduced to the world of Peculiar Children and their guardian, Miss Peregrine. An imaginative plot with unexpected twists and that leaves you with a cliff hanger! Am looking forward to the next installment of this series!!

A highly recommended read!

Happy Reading, friends!
