Warning: There will be a lot of gushing in this post. I loved this book. Like really, really loved it. Let the gush-fest commence.
So, a few months ago I downloaded the YA book ‘Never, Never’ by Colleen Hoover and Tarryn Fisher. It’s been on my Kindle ever since. I think it was recommended by another writer friend through Facebook (??) and I’m pretty positive it was likely during a free or .99 cent download day, because I pretty much never spend money on books. (Shhh! Don’t tell!) I stumbled across it the other day, thought the cover looked interesting and figured I’d get the first chapter read before bed.
Or maybe half the book.
Yes. It’s true. I couldn’t put it down. And, actually, telling you I read the half the book isn’t as impressive as it sounds, since this is actually a novella (although I didn’t know it at the time!) Fast forward to the next day when I ripped through to the ending, only to dive toward my laptop, praying the next book in the series had been released. (It had!) ‘Never, Never’ Part Two was immediately purchased and loaded onto said Kindle (I even paid $2.99!) and was devoured just as quickly.
Now for the review.
The Synopsis:
Book One: Best friends since they could walk. In love since the age of fourteen. Complete strangers since this morning. He’ll do anything to remember. She’ll do anything to forget.
Book Two: “Never forget that I was your first real kiss. Never forget that you’ll be my last. And never stop loving me between all of them. Never stop, Charlie. Never forget.”
Silas races against time as more truths unravel, while others twist tighter together. And now, the stakes are higher as Silas’ control slips and others begin to point fingers. Charlie is in trouble and he must be the one to bridge the chasm between their past and their present. Because somewhere between I love yous and Never Nevers and Never Agains, a truth they can’t imagine, beckons to be found.

The Short: 5 Stars. As if you didn’t see that one coming.
The Long: Ok, let’s start at the beginning. Because the description doesn’t give a whole lot, I will tell you that this is about a guy and a girl who both lose their memories at the same time. But it’s not by accident and everyone around them is acting as if life is normal. So, they spend the next few days running around trying to piece their lives together and figure out what they hay happened!
Now on to the good stuff. I really like the writing style of both of these ladies. Reeeallly. It’s grounded, fluid and basically leaves you wanting to read the first few lines of the next chapter, which is the goal of any writer. The characters are so real, I honestly feel like I know them. (And I want to help them, oh dear Lord, I just want to help!) And the plot, holy crow. Such a fantastic idea, I just couldn’t help but to eat it up. It’s basically a mystery at it’s best. The characters have no idea what’s going on (literally), you have no idea what’s going on. Yet everyone around them do! Talk about brain teaser.
I will be honest. I was a bit worried when book 1 ended because I wasn’t sure how they were going to pull off keeping my attention in book 2. The set-up of the second book made me think it was going to be very one sided and less interesting than the first. Do not let your mind go there! It was just as captivating as the first and actually held my attention even better.
To recap: It’s YA. It’s a contemporary fantasy sci-fi mystery romance. (Take your pick.) It’s all amounts of teen angst, it’s superbly written and I just couldn’t put it down. There you have it. Go read it. Then wait another few months to finish the series, since part 3 doesn’t come out until this summer. (Sorry.)
