Ruby twirled in front of her mirror, her champagne colored dress spinning, too. Her smile waned.

The pandemic had swept the world in a matter of weeks.

School = canceled.

Graduation = postponed.

Senior year = ruined.

Prom = gone.

Her stomach clenched as she snatched up her phone and fell onto her bed. Her fingers quickly messaged her best friend, Lacie.

This stinks. We should be leaving for prom like now.

Little dots popped on her screen as her friend typed a reply. Yeah. Totally bummed.

Had a super weird dream. Went to prom. Had the most amazing time and I fell in love with the man of my dreams. Ruby sighed.

If only dreams came true.

Who was he?

Don’t know. Ruby bit her lip. Woke up before I saw his face.

Haha.

Who do you think it was?

Or wish it was?

Ruby hesitated. Kevin.

Kevin Conner? Like 6 foot 5 most popular guy in the senior class Kevin?

Um. Yea? Ruby winced.

Okay then.

Thanks for the confidence.

Just sayin. He’s got Beth. He’s like really taken.

Yea. IKR?

Why’d you think he was the man of your dreams?

He gave me a pink rose. My fave flower. That’s gotta mean something right?

Maybe. Don’t know.

Hey gotta go. TTYL.

Ruby tossed her phone to the side with a groan.

A knock at her bedroom window made her jump. Her friends sometimes visited, since she had a ground floor room.

She yanked the curtain aside. Her neighbor, Trent, stood at the window wearing a tux, music playing on his phone.

Ruby frowned. “What are you doing?”

“Tonight is prom.” His voice was muffled through the glass panes.

She glanced at her dress. “I know.”

“So…I’m here to take you.”

“Huh?”

“I dreamed of the girl of my dreams. It was you.” He pulled out a pink rose, a broad smile on his face. “What do you say? Can I have this dance?”

Ruby gasped. She placed her hands on the window, opposite Trent’s.

Maybe she got her prom, after all. And the man of her dreams.
